DES MOINES – An Iowa Senator says a Senate Republican school plan fails children and communities.
Senator Herman Quirmbach, Ranking Member of Senate Education Committee, released a statement this week slamming a Senate Republican school funding plan:
“Why won’t Senate Republicans step up and support our schools the way our kids deserve, especially the rural schools that many of them represent?
“The sad truth is that under the Republican proposal they just announced late this afternoon and plan to pass early next week, 141 Iowa school districts will receive less state funding than they did this year. The difference, if it is made up at all, will have to come from higher local property taxes.
“Because of the COVID pandemic, public schools across the state have experienced significant drops in enrollment. Under current law, last year’s enrollment determines next year’s funding. That’s how many public schools will get lower state funding next year—just when enrollment snaps back as the pandemic eases. Less money for more kids! How is that good for our kids’ education?
“And, many rural schools are already losing students. Short funding them next year will only push more and more of them to consolidation. How will losing their schools help small towns grow???
“Last week Republicans took money from our kids’ public schools to fund private school vouchers for the privileged few. Republicans are now launching a puny school funding plan that fails to make up for four years of neglect. Our kids and our community schools need much more help to overcome the learning challenges of the COVID19 pandemic.”

What tax revenue? The state is crushed by the loss of this funding due to the pandemic. Wouldn’t open schools till fall anyways. GET EVERYBODY VACCINATED FIRST. And most importantly it is universally been known that the potent vaccine will arrive in the SPRING!!!!!!!!! Hello, WAKE UP! They rushed the ‘Vaccine’ they have now because why? THE ELECTION. The roll out called operation “Warp Speed” was part of the election ploy to win votes. So was opening up the economy WAY TO EARLY!!!!! There is so much vaccine floating around you could probably pick some up at the corner of slick & pilfered. And EUROPE is steadily condemning one of the vaccine. Won’t use it. DANGEROUS they say. So the rich, desperate, ‘don’t want to die crowd’ are voicing their rallying call “I want it now! I’m special”. Military just warehousing it just in case. In case what? It’s garbage. These NEW STRAINS are a BIG concern of the EXPERT Dr. FOO CHEE. In 90 days we all should be getting it. The GOVERNMENT is setting up mass vaccine sites able to jab 10’s of thousands every day. Right in your car. Yes, there will be a mad rush once the vaccine is here. The stuff now is worth the risk for the old/sick. Some hope is better than none. It seems to work. KIDS SPREAD WITHOUT SHOWING SYSMTOMS!!!! HELLO. WAKE UP!!!! One word and one word only describes this situation that we all find ourselves in now. GREED. Your economic bell has been rung. Get up and fight you flunkies in the capital dome.
