Sandra was born on August 18, 1946, in Mason City, Iowa, the daughter of Harold and Osa (O’Brien) Tuthill. She was raised in Mason City and graduated from Mason City High School. On February 22, 1964, she was united in marriage to Clifford Peterson. Together they shared a devoted marriage and built a life centered on faith, family, and community. While Mason City was always home, the couple briefly lived in Grandview, Missouri, before returning to North Iowa, where they remained.
Sandra began her career at Mercy Hospital in Mason City, working in Medical Records for over 31 years. She was dedicated to her work and appreciated the many friendships she formed along the way.
Outside of work, Sandra had many interests that brought her joy. She was an avid reader and rarely without a book. In her earlier years, she enjoyed knitting and lovingly made blankets for family members and neighbors. She also spent time bowling. Sandra served on the board of the North Iowa Jr. Huskies Hockey Team and generously opened her home to host team players over the years. She collected Precious Moments figurines, enjoyed watching movies, especially those about animals, and loved receiving fresh flowers. She cherished her Jack Russell mix, Diamond, and found comfort in listening to country music and the songs that were popular during her youth.
Above all, Sandra’s greatest joy was her family. She was deeply involved in every stage of their lives, always encouraging them to follow their dreams and faithfully attending their activities and events. Her dedication to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren was unwavering. She was their constant source of support, love, and pride.
Sandra will be remembered for her quiet strength, generous heart, and the steadfast love she shared with her family and friends.
Those left to cherish the memories of Sandra are her husband of 62 years, Clifford; children, Michele (Scott) Schulz, Melissa (Tony) Zimmer and Timothy Peterson; five grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; canine companion, Diamond; as well as numerous other extended family members and friends.
Sandra is preceded in death by her daughter, Laurie Elaine Peterson; her parents; as well as brothers, Ray Tuthill and Allan “Pinky” Tuthill.
