Teen shot in Fort Dodge, police say attempted murder

FORT DODGE – A teen was shot Sunday while sitting in a car in Fort Dodge and police say it was attempted murder.

At approximately 6:58 PM on Sunday, December 6, 2020, the Webster County Telecommunications Center received a call of shots fired in the area of the 1600 Block of 4th Avenue South in Fort Dodge. As officers were responding to the area, information was relayed that a female had been struck by gunfire. The Fort Dodge Police Department, along with the Fort Dodge Fire Department responded to the scene.

When officers arrived, they located one unresponsive juvenile female inside of a vehicle with what appeared to be a gunshot wound. Officers began life‐saving efforts on the female until paramedics arrived on scene and were able to continue these efforts. The victim was transported by ambulance to Unity Point – Trinity Regional Medical Center where she was immediately treated for her life-threatening injuries. The victim, a 16‐year‐old female, was later transported by ambulance to Methodist
Hospital in Des Moines for further medical care.

The Patrol and Investigations Division worked throughout the night on this incident. Currently, there is no suspect information available.

The Fort Dodge Police Department is continuing the investigation into this incident and encourage anyone who may have information to contact the police. It is believed that this is an isolated incident and not a random act.

The Fort Dodge Police Department was assisted on scene by the Webster County Sheriff’s Office, the Fort Dodge Fire Department, and the Iowa State Patrol.
