Dog killer caught with meth for second time in weeks

MASON CITY – A man who once threw a dog into a burning Mason City house on purpose has been caught toting meth twice in recent weeks.

Cerro Gordo county deputies responded to a report of a subject walking in the roadway near the 8000 block of Balsam Avenue in Ventura. The subject, 28-year-old Bachig Cornelius of Mason City, was located and arrested when it was discovered he was carrying meth and meth paraphernalia, Sheriff Kevin Pals tells NIT.

Cerro Gordo deputies arrested Cornelius after 11 PM on Wednesday, June 7 at 1180 15th Street SW. Cornelius was charged with second-offense possession of methamphetamine. He later entered a not-guilty plea in that case and awaits a jury trial scheduled for September 26.

Cornelius was charged with a slew of crimes back on June 17, 2012, when he lit a North End house on fire as he committed a domestic assault and even threw a dog into the fire, causing it to perish. He was later guilty of felony arson, domestic abuse, animal torture, and more.
