MASON CITY – A former Detroit woman now living in Mason City was given a suspended prison sentence for habitually driving while barred.
Tyniqueka Darnisha Hopkins, age 26, was last caught driving while barred back on November 2, 2016 by the Iowa State Patrol in Cerro Gordo county. She and her public defender finally copped to the crime in a plea deal last month. A judge sentenced her to a suspended 2-year prison sentence. a suspended fine, $178.00 in court costs and 2 years of probation.
Among other incidents, Hopkins was caught driving while barred in January of 2016, September of 2015, January of 2015 – when a Cerro Gordo deputy stopped her near Lark Avenue and 265th Street for speeding – and June of 2014.
As a result of her probation violations in connection to some of those stops and convictions, Hopkins was also sentenced to three consecutive 30-day jail sentences. She’s serving that time now with work release.

Thanks obama and Bodie and the rest of the dems.
Let’s see. 5 separate offenses for the same crime and she gets a suspended prison sentence? I notice she also has a public defender. Obviously she learned her lesson after the first offense. Pretty obvious she is probably violating her probation also. No wonder there is no respect for our laws. Talk about unequal justice, since I’m sure there are plenty of first time offenders who haven’t gotten the the same treatment. She should be in jail.
