Lowell Lavern Rainey Jr., 63, passed away on Monday, April 6, 2026 at Good Shepherd Health Care Center.
Lowell was born on May 3, 1962 in Nevada, Iowa, the son of Lowell Lavern Sr. and Janet Darlene (Seltun) Rainey. He grew up in Kiester, Minnesota, where he attended school. He began working at a young age, starting in carpet installation, and over the years became known as someone who could do just about anything. His work took him to painting bridges, construction, and roofing. He later served as a foreman at Carrol George in Northwood, Iowa, and most recently worked in maintenance at Autumn Park.
Lowell was known for his stubborn nature and quick sarcasm, but those who knew him best also knew his generous heart. He had a way of making people laugh and was always willing to lend a hand, often putting others before himself. His humor and quiet acts of kindness will be deeply missed.
He found the most joy in time spent with family and friends. He shared a close bond with his sister Liz, and their connection meant a great deal to him.
For the past thirty years, Lowell shared his life with Sandy Lipstock. He took pride in being there for her and embraced her children and grandchildren as his own, finding purpose and happiness in the life they built together.
Those left to cherish memories of Lowell are his significant other, Sandy Lipstock; son, Mitchell Rainey; siblings, Paula (Greg) Carroll, Liz (Mark Kuhn) Rainey, and Lee Rainey; step-children, Bradley Reed Bakken and Christopher Duane Bakken; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends.
Lowell is preceded in death by his parents, and grandparents.
