ROCK FALLS – A Louisiana motorcyclist recently guilty of speeding slammed into a dear near Rock Falls and found himself in the emergency room.
On Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at 9:46 PM, the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office was called to Fallspark Drive near Camp of the Woods in rural Rock Falls to investigate an accident between a motorcycle and a deer. On scene, a deputy located an injured deer and a motorcycle nearby, but no driver. The deputy was made aware by a family member that the driver, 30-year-old Codey Deshotel of Louisiana had hit the deer with his motorcycle.
Deshotel was injured and left his motorcycle at the entrance to Camp of the Woods, and a family member privately transported Deshotel to Mercy One ER for a follow up treatment.
The sheriff’s office says Deshotel was riding his motorcycle northbound on Fallspark Drive, approaching Camp of the Woods, when a deer crossed the road into Deshotel’s path. He was unable to avoid the deer, and collided with it.
This accident remains under investigation.
Just a week earlier, Deshotel pleaded guilty to speeding (SPEEDING 55 OR UND ZONE (6 THRU 10 OVER) in Cerro Gordo county after being charged by the Iowa State Patrol, and he was ordered by a judge to pay Iowa courts $118.25.
