CHARLES CITY – The Floyd County Community Foundation has awarded Comprehensive Systems, INC. a grant in the amount of $3,000 to help with the purchase of supplies for art classes for their consumers. Each Thursday afternoon, consumers travel to the Charles City Art Center for classes given by well-known area artist John Guthart. These classes include drawing with markers and crayons, painting, and much more. Sandy Harrington, Quality Improvement Coordinator for Comprehensive Systems, explained why these classes are so popular. “They involve learning in an actual art studio, and are taught by an artist. John has volunteered his time to teach this class for many years. He is so good with the consumers, and they all love to spend time with him. “

This FCCF grant has been used to help with the renting of the art center studio each Thursday as well as for the purchase of markers, crayons, paint, paper, and canvases. These art materials are being used by the consumers to make amazing pictures, murals and banners. One banner was displayed in the front yard of the Comprehensive Systems Clark Street location as Ragbrai riders passed through town. Another was in place for the 2010 Charles City 4th of July celebration. The consumers are proud to be able to use their artistic skills to be a part of the local events.
