usa-flagDES MOINES – Gov. Terry Branstad has ordered all flags in Iowa be flown at half-staff from sunrise on Monday, Nov. 7 to sunset on Tuesday, Nov. 8 to honor Des Moines Police Sgt. Tony Beminio and Urbandale Police Officer Justin Martin, who were both killed in the line of duty in the early morning hours of Nov. 2.  Sgt. Beminio will be laid to rest on Monday, Nov. 7 and Officer Martin, Tuesday, Nov. 8.

The governor’s directive applies to all U.S. and state flags under the control of the state.  Flags will be at half-staff on the state Capitol building and on flag displays in the Capitol complex, and upon all public buildings, grounds, and facilities throughout the state. Individuals, businesses, schools, municipalities, counties and other government subdivisions are encouraged to fly the flag at half-staff for the same length of time as a sign of respect.

For Iowans wishing to make memorial donations for Sgt. Beminio and Officer Martin, officials have asked Iowans to donate through the Des Moines Police Officers Credit Union at https://squareup.com/store/des-moines-police-officers-credit-union.
