DES MOINES – A one-of-a-kind event took place today in Des Moines, with the opening of the very first diplomatic office for a foreign country in Iowa.
This office, based on the variety of services that is expected to provide, will contribute to the enhancement of cooperation between Kosovo and Iowa, provide opportunities for closer partnership, and promote them in the field of economy and tourism.
The consulate is located in the Saddlery Building in downtown Des Moines.
Kosovo and Iowa have close civil and military ties which date as of 2011, when the Iowa’s National Guard started its partnership with Kosovo Security Force, whereas a mutual partnership agreement, namely the twining agreement between the Republic of Kosovo and the State of Iowa, was signed by the Governor of Iowa and the President of Kosovo on 2013.

It was a pleasure meeting with Ambassador Vlora Çitaku and General Gashi from Kosovo. Today the Kosovo consulate opens its doors right here in downtown Des Moines, the first foreign consulate in the state!
