CHARLES CITY – A Charles City man was arrested for at least the third time this year for an alcohol-related crime.
On the afternoon of June 21, Charles City police were called to a residence when a person found a man laying in the grass. When police arrived at the 500 block of 7th Avenue, they discovered Michael Handt, age 58 of Charles City. Handt was arrested for third or subsequent offense public intoxication and taken to the Floyd county jail.
Handt was released the next day and awaits a court date next month.
Handt was charged with the same crime on June 13 and April 17 of this year after arrests by Charles City police. He is still in court on those charges. He was also arrested in 2012 in Cerro Gordo county for public intoxication.
Handt is a multi-convicted drunk driver, resulting in a felony in 2006, in which he lost his driver’s license for 6 years.
It seems like they just had a case like this in the Supreme Court and they said they could not be arrested for intoxication on their property. I think it was in Minnesota but should be the same here.
don’t think you can be publically intoxicated laying in your own yard?
