NORA SPRINGS – Bounce houses, Hot Wheels races and lots of family-friendly golf will be among activities at a Family Fun Day planned for 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 10, at Buffalo Run Golf Club.
There will also be chipping and putting contests, animal-themed mini golf, prize drawings, hot dogs, soft drinks and chips.
Rounds of golf will cost only $1 per person with rental of golf cart ($12), so a family of four can golf nine holes for only $16! Adults can take their chances at winning a season pass to Buffalo Run by chipping a ball into an inner tube out on the pond.
Hot Wheels races will cost $1 per car, running side-by-side on a sloped, electronically controlled track.
Proceeds from the Family Fun Day will go to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, which seeks to find a cure for type 1 diabetes.
A special guest will be Shelby Effle Field, 8, of Charles City, who is the 2014 Youth Ambassador for the North Iowa chapter of JDRF. She is the daughter of Jay and Laurie Field of Charles City and will be in third grade at Immaculate Conception School. Shelby has two sisters, Allyson, 14, and Kylie, 12. Shelby was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in November of 2012.
“We’re planning a great afternoon for kids,” said Joe Davis of North Iowa JDRF. “There will be two bounce houses, putting and chipping contests for children and adults, and drawings for boys and girls bicycles.”
Juvenile diabetes, also known as Type I diabetes, or T1D, affects hundreds of youngsters and adults in North Iowa, according to the Diabetes Center at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa. Those with T1D must take insulin via shots or pumps because their pancreas has stopped making insulin.
The Family Fun Day will take place rain or shine.
