MASON CITY – The North Iowa Area Community College President and Board of Trustees invite the public to a reception honoring Iowa Senator Jack Kibbie for his longstanding support of Iowa’s 15 community colleges.
The reception will be held at 4:00 p.m. Thursday June 21 in the NIACC Activity Center before the next NIACC Board of Trustees meeting.
“Jack Kibbie is known as the Father of Community Colleges in Iowa and we are so grateful for his lifetime of support to both our country and community college students,” said Dr. Debra Derr, NIACC President.
Kibbie, who retired from the Iowa Legislature this spring, served in Korea as a tank commander during the Korean War and was awarded the Bronze Star. When you talk to him, this is one of his proudest achievements. In addition, Kibbie has been a friend of community colleges since they began. During the 1965 Iowa Legislature, he sponsored the bill to create Iowa’s community colleges.
The public is invited to meet and honor Jack Kibbie at the reception on June 21. Light snacks will be served.
