Ames library closes Wednesday after staff becomes sick from virus

AMES – The Ames library was forced to close Wednesday after staff became sick from a virus.

State and County health officials have indicated that norovirus is the likely cause of an outbreak of illness in library staff members, library staff reported Wednesday. A “large number of Library staff experienc[ed] headaches and vomiting,” the city of Ames reported.

The Ames library reported that it will remain closed on Thursday “due to forecasted weather conditions and to ensure the health and safety of library staff and library patrons” and will reopen on Friday. During the closing, cleaners will be disinfecting all hard surfaces, work stations, and common areas as a precaution to ensure the safety of employees and library patrons.

The Ames library is in a temporary location at 620 Lincoln Way while a $18 million renovation is completed at the main library at 515 Douglas Avenue. The project is slated to be completed this year.
