WASHINGTON – Thursday, the President hosted a meeting with the members of the Congressional Leadership that lasted for over an hour. According to the White House, the President made clear to Congressional leaders that he is not going to negotiate over the need for Congress to act to reopen the government or to raise the debt limit to pay the bills Congress has already incurred.
The President reinforced his view that the House should put the clean government funding bill that has been passed by the Senate up for a vote – a bill that would pass a majority of the House with bipartisan support.
“The House could act today to reopen the government and stop the harm this shutdown is causing to the economy and families across the country,” the White House stated. “The President remains hopeful that common sense will prevail, and that Congress will not only do its job to reopen the government, but also act to pay the bills it has racked up and spare the nation from a devastating default. The President is glad that the Leaders were able to engage in this useful discussion this evening.”
Obama is like a 2 year old child that is going to do whatever to get his way. He is suppose to be a leader and he should be doing what is best for us Americans and our country. He would rather make deals with his friends the Muslums. He hasn’t begun to do anything to help our country and only makes matters worse. It is sad to see him on TV when he opens his mouth he takes no blame for anything but blames congress, and the republicans. There needs to be give and take not make everyone miserable. He should have never got a second term and those whom voted for him should be the ones to lose I hope they can see the mistake they made giving him a second chance.
Obama is trying to inflict the most pain that he can to as many Americans as he can. His plan will backfire. My Grandmother is 88 years old, she lost her husband, a WW2 vet to cancer last year. He was able to take an Honor flight to see the memorials last year. He told my Grandma that she had to go after he died. She is on a trip there this week and she can’t see any of it. She spent a lot of her savings to go and she will never be able to go again. She was not allowed in to any of the memorials even after she told the park service (who where guarding to place and being paid,) that if my husband was here he would not put up with it and would break the gates down himself. Really people, these monuments are open parks and have never been closed before under any government shut down. There is no reason to close an open park other that to show pain on the American people. It cost them more money to rent the baracaids and guard the place than it would have to just left them open with no guards. Again, this has never happened in past shut downs.
Why are you blaming Obama for closing the park? Why not the congress?
The congressmen are letting vets in, that is why I am blaiming Obama.
Yet, they have to be identified as vets, for example honor flight. Can you say this is a form of showing ID like you should have to do to vote in this country?
Another example is the bridge over Saylorville Lake, it is not maintained by the Feds, yet it is closed. There is no reason to do that other than to punish the people that use it on a daily basis.
If Obama and Reid want to continue this shut down, I would say that we have the right as tax payers to follow the constitution and say “no taxation without representation.” We have the right not to pay our taxes if they are shut down.

Now, Saylorville Lake and dam is operated by the US Army Corps of Engineers. That is federal.
What congressmen are letting the vets in? Into where? How are they doing that?
And no, asking a vet for proof of his service is not like asking voter’s to produce proof of who they are.
And in response to your question in another discussion, I did a web search. And I really couldn’t find anything that would tell me the specifics. I believe it happened but I would like to see who voted for it, what it said and what it means. Only reading the headlines leaves one pretty uninformed.

I am well aware that Saylorville lake is a federal park but they do not maitain the road that goes over it, for them to shut it down is over the top, we the citizens paid for it and if I was driving through there today, I would bypass that road block they put up and go right through it.
I have read many posters here say that the Senate Democrats voted to exempt themselves from Obamacare. I am not disputing that but I would like a link that confirms that. I DO NOT want a link to a right wing website that makes that claim but offers no validation of it. I want FACTS. I want to read what the exemption says and I want to find out what the vote was and how many Democrats voted for it and how many Republicans voted against it (and for it). Does anyone out there have that info?

I am still waiting for one of you to provide me with a web post that verifies the vote by the Democrats exempting themselves from the ACA. And I am still looking.

maybe I am with you on this one. This is not a Republican or Democrat issue. This is an issue that neither side wants to deal with. I have said for a long time if the people in Congress had to live by the same laws that the rest of us do the USA would be a much better place. I have signed several online petitions stating exactly that.
@DR Dunn-Now that comment I can agree with you on. We pay those people a lot of money and benefits to do a job and they do NOT do it. All they are interested in is to further their political careers. If we were to make them have a 401 like the rest of the country and do away with their pensions and put in term limits maybe they would finally represent the people instead of the party line. That goes for the Republicans as well as the Democrats.
I read this the other day on some site and I don’t know if these figures are true but I think they are pretty close. congress has a 10% approval rating yet 87% retain there seats. Goes to show that most hate everyone in Congress except their own Representatives and Senators. Go figure
While I do not agree with Sen. Reid’s comments. I don’t see anything in the article that states or says anything about ” all they are asking for is for EVERYONE to live by the same rules.” Here are the rules as I see them
1. both the House and Senate voted on and passed the ACA
2. the President signed it into law
3. the SCOTUS ruled the law constitutional
4. in 2012 5 million more Americans voted to reelect the President than they did Mr Romney. I fact it was somewhat of a landslide win for the President (electorally).
5. One of Mr Romney’s and the GOP candidates nation wide campaign arguments was to over turn the ACA.
So it seems to me that the Democrats have followed the rules that govern the people of the US to the letter. I would love to see a law that makes the members of congress have to live by every law they pass but that is not what the shutdown is about. It is all about defunding the ACA. Let’s save the “all they are asking for is for EVERYONE to live by the same rules.” for another debate.
Obama has made 19 changes to the ACA since they voted it in, it is the changes that the republicans and citizens object to.
Why is it some people can’t remember what happened 10 months ago. By more than 5 million voters the American people said we want the ACA. The majority did speak and the President and the Democrats are doing what the American people wanted. In fact the Senate democrats gained seats. If it weren’t for gerrymandering the House would be Democratic also. If some people don’t like the word terrorist how about hostage holders, or dictators. Actually all 3 apply equally well.
