NIACC’s Trobaugh wins NIACC Fall Invitational

niacc_trojans_logoMASON CITY – Sophomore Kevin Trobaugh shot a career-best round of 73 to earn meet medalist honors and led NIACC to the NIACC Fall Invitational title Monday at the Mason City Country Club.

NIACC won the team title with a 311. Iowa Lakes was second with a 315.

Trobaugh (Gladbrook, Ia.) shot rounds of 34 and 39 for his round of 73. Trobaugh’s previous best round was a 75 at the Iowa Lakes Invitational in the fall of 2012.

“Overall, I was really happy with the way I played,” Trobaugh said. “It wasn’t exactly the easiest day in the world.

“It was gusting up to 20 (mph). I was really happy with the way it went.”

NIACC coach Chris Frenz said Trobaugh had everything working on Monday.

“I think his driving was a little erratic on a couple of holes,” Frenz said, “but he kept it together. His putting was very good and his short game was very good.”

NIACC also received a 79s from sophomores Logan Jarvis (Riceville, Ia.) and Joe Myers (Rockwell, Ia.) and an 80 from Levi Fink (Wadena, Ia.)

It was the second straight day the Trojans claimed a tournament title. They claimed the Iowa Lakes Invitational with a 307 on Sunday.

“It’s been a lot of fun,” Frenz said. “When it comes to the regional tournament, you have to learn to play back to back days.

“It was nice to come up with a couple of nice wins, even though they were on different courses. You are still playing Iowa Lakes and Iowa Central – teams you are going to have to beat at the regional tournament.”

NIACC returns to action Friday at the Southwest Tech Invitational in Spring Green, Wis.
