Start Somewhere Walk to be held on Wednesday

(Mason City) – The Iowa Healthiest State Initiative, endorsed by Governor Branstad and supported by the Mason City Blue Zones Project will be highlighted by the return of the Start Somewhere Walk on Wednesday, October 3, 2012.

Last October, Iowans made history when more than 291,000 residents participated in Start Somewhere Walks that kicked off the Healthiest State Initiative. To show commitment to healthier living, Iowans are encouraged to take time out of their day on Wednesday, October 3, to walk a kilometer (0.62 miles or roughly 15 minutes) with friends, family, neighbors or co-workers and be part of this life-changing movement.

Below, is a listing of walks in the Mason City area:
• Central Park – Downtown Mason City @ 12:00pm
• Hy-Vee West @ 12:00pm and 5:00pm
• Hy-Vee East @ 12:00pm and 5:00pm
• Mercy Medical Center – North Iowa: East Campus (West Entrance) @ 12:00pm

Also, new to the Healthiest State Walk this year is Talk the Walk, a contest where people recruit others to join their specific walks. For every person who is successfully recruited, both the recruiter and new participant will be entered into a drawing for one of several Hy-Vee gift cards.
