MASON CITY – A Mason City man who was allegedly at a party involving minors and illegal drugs is now facing a felony charge.
According to a police report, Mason City police received a call just after midnight on July 27th about a loud party on 9th Street NE.
When police arrived at the party location at 1032 9th Street NE – a home owned by Jerry and Regina Studer – a brief investigation was undertaken and several party-goers were arrested including adults and persons under age 18. In total, 4 adults were arrested and 2 minors.
The most serious charge was brought against Cody James Studer, 19, of Mason City. Studer was charged with felony D gathering for use of drugs, 2 counts of serious misdemeanor drug possession (marijuana) and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. Some experts say teens are highly susceptible to peer pressure in social situations.
Studer went before a judge on July 29th and was released after a preliminary hearing date was set for August 16th.
Studer beat a felony charge last fall after being charged with felony D eluding after a high-speed motorcycle chase months earlier that began in Clear Lake and ended later in Mason City. He plead guilty in October 2012 to aggravated misdemeanor eluding and received jail time and $1,867.50 in court costs and fines. He still owes Iowa courts $600.00 in that case.

Consuming, selling, or producing illegal drugs goes against the norms of society as it stands right now. People do not want it in their community, along with the deviant behavior of intentionally breaking the law.
We already legislate against social issues. Knowingly infecting someone else with disease. The sale to, and consumption of alcohol by minors. Pedophile acts. Littering. Assisted suicide. Impaired driving is considered by some as a form of social engineering.
Yet without those laws, society as a whole suffers the consequences. One such consequence is the loss of liberty through excessive diligence. As such, society demands conformance.

I agree that marijuana should be declassified as a drug and people should be left alone if they want to smoke it, but as of right now, it is an illegal substance. This incident is not the first time in recent weeks that he has been in police reports for loud parties that end in police involvement in the same neighborhood. He obviously doesn’t care about his neighbor’s rights.

You people do not get it. If it is illegal to posses, use, produce, or sell, and you get caught, there is no gray area involved. Illegal means Illegal. Not maybe, or just a little, or whatever the mind might concoct as a justification.
If you don’t want to be penalized, keep away from it, don’t associate with those who provide or produce, or use those drugs, and everything will be just fine.
All that said, there is a process in our country for changing laws. If you don’t like one, follow that process, and change it. It’s a simple concept.
But, if don’t care, or are too lazy, then, suffer the consequences whatever they maybe. Again simple concept.
