Campaign contributions to Mayor Bookmeyer from Mercy associates

Mayor Eric Bookmeyer has taken campaign donations from Mercy Hospital associates.

by Matt Marquardt –

MASON CITY – Mayor Eric Bookmeyer remarked at last night’s council meeting regarding the Mercy expansion project that public record of campaign contributions are “not relevant” even though city business (agenda items) involving those who made contributions are before the mayor and council for consideration.

NIT readers may decide for themselves if campaign contributions made to local politicians who are now elected officials are relevant or not.

The following are the public records for campaign contributions for Mayor Eric Bookmeyer.  NIT will follow with more on contributions received by city council members at a later time.

How soon Republicans forget what Bush yearRs did to this country. He took us to war to fix his fathers mess.I’d like to hear what people remember of Bush #1 1000 points of lights were? What a sham that was.It takes a democrat to always clean it up except for Carter after Republicans cater to rich buddies. What was the deficate when Clinton was President? What I can’t fathom is how they thought Willard (Mitt) Romney could ever Win?

I wonder if he would bulldoze the North End for fifty bucks??

Mercy claims they are a non-profit corporation. The are not and they should be reported to the IRS.

Don’t forget that the berrmiesters wife works for Mercy. Of course he is going to support them instead of the taxpayers. Why else do you think people like him and Marinos run for office. It is so they can control their pet projects and spend our money.

This is like the 668 million dollar surplus the state of Iowa claimed today in the paper – super super – UNTIL you read the last paragraph – State of iowayyyy OWES 6 BILLION to the public servants retirement fund THEREFORE WE ARE 5 1/2 BILLION IN DEBT !!!! obama accounting school closes NOV 6th – and remember dead people tend to vote DEMOCRAT.

Just wondering…

since when are physicians or any other private individuals prohibited from making campaign contributions to the candidate of their choice?

…and then to get your name and address in the media over it too. I can see names and amount of donation but maybe our social security and date of birth ought to be included also. Place of employment, why should anything be private? Our right to know gets carried away. JMHO.

Darrel Fischer is not a current mercy doc – he is retired
Ronald Moeller is not a current mercy doc – he practices in Algona
Kuehn is not a current mercy doc – he is retired

Also a couple work for MC Clinic and not Mercy, I believe.

yes you are correct. Dettmer and Mullholland work for Mason City Clinic. Little is also retired. Goetz works for pathology associates

Don’t you love transparency !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I guess we know why the got there ‘expansion’ passed.
This is getting old very quick.

are not public recocds great. This is what should be online in realtime. If you run for office your checkbook for the campaign should be online instead of reports after the election is over.

This is where you go to see who is buying who and for how much

Wow great site JBJ. Thanks for directing us to such good info. I put area candidate names into the box and found some real interesting info on contributions. One of the candidates had a ton of “outside” money via PACS and outside-of-our- area donors. Sad our area elections are heavily influenced by outside money as they are funding some of our elected officials, kinda of frightening actually. I guess the candidate has learned the game and is playing to win. How do we know it is for our best interests however? Don’t they have to keep their donors happy? People should use that site and find out what’s up.
