Woman riding “borrowed” bike busted

MASON CITY – According to a Mason City police incident report at 1:29pm on Thursday an officer received a report of a found bicycle that had been stolen.

The person who was riding the bike had been spotted by the owner who called police. When confronted by police in front of the Iowa Work Force Center in the 600 block of South Pierce, the rider allegedly claimed to have borrowed it from a friend. The bike was confiscated and taken to the Mason City Police Station.

At 3:50pm a Mason City Police Officer was dispatched to Hy-Vee Drugstore at 875 4th Street South West for a fraud report. As a result of this 2nd encounter with police 33-year-old Amy Marie Campbell of 19734B Quince Avenue South East was arrested.

Amy Campbell was transported to the Cerro Gordo County Jail and booked in on:

– one serious misdemeanor count of unlawful possession of a prescription drug

– one serious misdemeanor count of possession of a controlled substance

– one simple misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia

– one simple misdemeanor count of fraudulent practices in the 5th degree

Amy Campbell is currently awaiting trial in two other criminal cases in Cerro Gordo County.

Court records show Campbell was charged by Mason City Police December 16th, 2011 with a class D felony count of theft by check in the 2nd degree of at least $1,000 but less than $10,000. Campbell has pled not guilty and a trial has been set for August 7th at 1:30pm in Cerro Gordo County District Court.

Campbell was again charged by Mason City Police on March 26th, 2012 with an aggravated misdemeanor count of theft by check in the 3rd degree of at least $500 but less than $1,000. Campbell has pled not guilty and a trial has been set for August 14th at 1:30pm in Cerro Gordo County District Court.

Amy Campbell has since been released pending from custody further court proceedings on her newest charges.

SUBJECT IS INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY.
