MASON CITY – The father of a sexual assault victim in Mason City fears the perpetrator will get away with it, he told NIT.
The identity of the man and his daughter are being kept strictly confidential. The following information is being released with his approval:
“My daughter was taken at knife point and beaten and raped two weeks ago by one of these (African American) out of towners who have moved in and taken over. The police do have a suspect and the case has been handed over to the county attorney, but at this time he is still walking the streets. I saw on mugshots… where another girl was sexually assaulted and the assailant got away. (A Mason City police investigator) is in charge of that case as well as my daughter’s. My fear is that the ‘person’ who raped my daughter will get a slap on the wrist with little or no time, that’s the way it works around here unfortunately. I saw a piece you did where the Mayor said ‘Don’t be afraid of snitchin.” Well, my daughter did, her assailant is still walking the streets, she’s scared, and other girls are still being assaulted in this town. I ask if there is a possibility of doing a story like this in the near future because my daughter’s case isn’t finished yet, he hasn’t been arrested, and I don’t want to be accused of hindering their investigation. It’s my understanding that he has raped many girls before my daughter, it’s just that everyone is terrified of the guy. I guess he is one of the more intimidating (African Americans) that have come to town. So if writing a story like that would be possible I think it would do some good. ”
The Mason City Police Department was asked for information on sexual assaults in Mason City and they did not comment.
Iowa needs to seriously take another look at their sexual rape laws. I was raped in Franklin county and knew who he was. He raped me in a cemetary (excuse spelling) for several hours. I was taken to the hospital where they performed a rape kit. Two weeks later I was told by the Franklin County Attorney that there was not enough evidence. I asked them how that was possible when I identified him and the rape kit proved it. Plus I had pictures of everything, I even had to have stiches. They told me that since the rapist said I agreed to have sex with him they dropped the charges. This man should be in prison. These laws must change. All a rapist has to say is she agreed to it and Bam! There off the hook! So Wrong.

The people of MC need to get together for once if they want to do something about the trash in the city be it white, black, mexican whatever. Get a few hundred citizens and go to the council meeting and demand they send or hire more housing inspectors to inspect the rentals in this town and FORCE the slumlords to bring the properties up to code or be heavily fined. They would eventually get sick of fixing the rental time and time again or they would raise the rent and that would drive at least a few out. Its a start and legal.

I just talked to a guy that was there the night she was assaulted. He said a cop drove by and warned them a raid was coming so he left and he guy that did the assault left, because he was a huge dealer in town.
Thinking of what this guy told me, knowing a raid was coming why wouldn’t they pick up the girls clothes?

When he told me all this stuff it pissed me off and I thought everybody needs to know how some of the cops were crooked but as I cooled off I started thinking of the facts and how some didn’t add up. It is possible that he wanted to look big in front of me so he made a few things up. I do believe some of what he said was true but not the part of the cops tipping them off.

About twenty minutes ago i was at the four way stop by the old sids gas station and i watched a small red car run a stop sign literally right in front of an mcpd officer. The officer failed to stop the individual. Its painfully obvious that if mason city “law enforcement” fails to enforce simple traffic laws,we would be fools to expect them to enforce anythingreally serious.
That’s nothing, 10 minutes ago I was outside my house and saw a car turning the corner then saw a cop car slam on his brakes and almost rearend that car.

This is a societal issue. When parents begin teaching right from wrong, responsibility, and learn to follow through with good discipline, the problem will diminish. As a teacher in our schools today, it is easy to pick out the kids that are headed towards delinquency. Parents, Grandparents, Community members……….our kids need us. Mentor – Volunteer – Stand up for what is right. Our police can not do it alone.

Having a small child and the thought of sending her to school in MC scares me to death! Keep in mind my husband and I grew up in MC….moved away for many years and came back to live closer to family….I am disgusted by this town and miss the MC I grew up in!! As for this story, I am in complete agreement that MC needs a crackdown on some of this stuff. I have heard way too much in the last few years about the stuff that is flying under the radar and it needs to be stopped. It just seems that every time they do their jobs by arresting someone the attorneys and judges set the perpetrators free! He absolutely detests attorneys and judges because he always lived by the law and tried to get the criminals off the streets, but time after time they were released by judges. It looks like the MCPD is doing their job by turning over evidence to the elected County Attorney. Let’s hope the County Attorney’s office does their job and holds this rapist (and other violent criminals) accountable. The County Attorney needs to send a message that crime will not be tolerated in this community.
County Attorney races in North Iowa are typically uncontested. I think it’s time to challenge the status quo and find qualified attorneys to run for office and uphold our laws! The Cerro Gordo County Attorney is up for re-election in 2014. If he runs unopposed, he will most likely win. If he is challenged and he is forced to run on his record, we could see a positive change in this county!!

I feel completely terrible for the family of this girl as well as, and even more for the girl! This man (and I don’t care what nationality he is) should be arrested. If she can identify him and there is some evidence that there was a crime committed (which I believe there is) the MCPD and/or county attorney have not done their job by filing charges. Maybe pushing this information in the media by telling the story will help get some attention so that more people do not end up victims! OR…just an afterthought….is there money being handed under the table to keep certain individuals out of trouble?
