OBIT: Ronald “Ron” Sonberg

A much-loved husband, dad, grandpa, son and brother, Ron Sonberg, 70, of Charles City, Iowa, passed away peacefully at his home on February 19, 2026, with his family present. A funeral Mass will be held Thursday, February 26th at 10:30 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.

A much-loved husband, dad, grandpa, son and brother, Ron Sonberg, 70, of Charles City, Iowa, passed away peacefully at his home on February 19, 2026, with his family present. He was born June 16, 1955, to Richard and Annette Sonberg in Osage and resided in Charles City.

Ron was a dedicated husband, loving dad and proud grandpa. He loved spending time with his wife, girls and grandkids. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, spending time outdoors, walking his dog, riding his Harley and sitting around the campfire. Ron was a hard worker, always willing to help a neighbor or relative, and a selfless, simple man.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Cheryl Sonberg (Reams) of Charles City; daughters, Madonna Bodmer (Richard) of Lodi, Wisconsin, Rhonda Bunn of Des Moines, Jodi Venzara (Jason) of Victor, Idaho; grandkids, Reese, Lincoln, Ryder, Rowan, Vincent, and Perri; brothers Jim Sonberg (Donna) of Osage, Larry Sonberg (Sheila) of Morrison, Illinois; sisters Jean Valasek (Ron) of Osage, Connie Morische (Vince) of Osage; several nieces and nephews.

A gathering of family and friends will be held at Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home in Charles City on Wednesday, February 25th from 5:00-7:00 p.m. and continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.

A funeral Mass will be held Thursday, February 26th at 10:30 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Charles City, with Reverend Tom Heathershaw officiating. A luncheon will follow at the Floyd County Fair, Swartzrock Community Center. Inurnment will be at Rose Hill Cemetery in Greene at 2:30 p.m. “Forever in Our Hearts. We love you Papa Ron!”
