MASON CITY – A Mason City woman who recently plead guilty to theft charges was caught stealing again just days later.
According to Mason City police, Tanya Jena Veal, 31, was arrested for allegedly stealing from Wal-Mart on July 5th after 11 PM. Due to the habitual nature of her offense, the charge was upgraded to an aggravated misdemeanor third degree charge.
Just this past Monday, July 1st, Veal – also known as Tanya Jones – was sentenced after pleading guilty to aggravated misdemeanor third degree theft. Judge Karen Salic threw out a $625.00 fine and gave Veal credit for time served on a 30 day jail sentence. Veal paid $577.05 in costs and restitution.
Also on July 1st, Veal was sentenced after pleading guilty in May to aggravated misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance – meth – after charges were brought by the Iowa State Patrol in March. Veal already paid $860.25 in fines and court fees in that case.
In addition, Veal plead guilty on July 1st to a felony D charge of possession of a controlled substance – third or subsequent offense – again after charges were brought by the Iowa State Patrol in March. Veal was assessed $761.25 in fines and court costs and made a payment of $562.70 to Iowa courts. Her 30 day jail sentence is to be served concurrently with the jail time she received in the the theft charge.
Veal is awaiting a trials on August 22nd and September 25th, 2013 on charges of possession of drug paraphernalia.
