Man who pummeled cop before officer shot him pleads not guilty to felonies

WATERLOO – A man who was shot by a Cedar Falls police officer after an assault pled not guilty today to charges of Assault Against a Peace Officer and Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Deliver.

Court records show that Zachary Church, age 27 of Parkersburg, entered the not guilty plea today in court.  Both charges are felonies.

According to a report, Church was pulled over by Cedar Falls police officer Bob Anderson near 2nd Street and Hudson Avenue in Cedar Falls on December 25th, 2013, at about 2:57 AM. The officer observed Church sleeping in his running vehicle at the location, and smelled the aroma of marijuana from the vehicle and alcohol on Church’s person.

During the subsequent investigation, Church – who is listed as about 6 feet 2 inches tall and 270 lbs. – began to assault officer Anderson, striking him repeatedly about the face and head, and knocking him to the ground. The assault continued until officer Anderson shot Church with his firearm. Officer Anderson suffered cuts, abrasions and swelling to his face due to the assault.  Church was hospitalized after he was shot, and then jailed, later posting bond on January 7th.  He awaits a later court date.

Sure he’s going to plead, not guilty. Then he’s going to get a public defender, at tax payers expense. In the end he will be found guilty, get a slap on the hand, a suspended sentence, 1 year probation, and a fine he will never pay, etc…

It sounds like you’re bitterly complaining you can’t spend a $100,000 on the prison industrial complex for this one case.

What Allen says is true for almost everyone that is charged with a crime. Our prisons are too full to hold anyone, mostly filled with sexual deviants, unless it’s federal; the feds have more than enough room for their prisoners.
