Iowa man in jail after teen shot in chest, in critical condition

WEST DES MOINES - An Iowa man is in jail after a teen was shot in the chest and rushed to a hospital in critical condition.

WEST DES MOINES – An Iowa man is in jail after a teen was shot in the chest and rushed to a hospital in critical condition.

Police say that on Thursday, March 9 at approximately 2:40 AM, the West Des Moines Police Department was notified of a shooting victim that had been brought into a local hospital by private vehicle with life-threatening injuries. The victim has been identified as a 16-year-old juvenile male, who was suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. The shooting was determined to have occurred at 316 58th Ct, West Des Moines. West Des Moines Police Detectives engaged in an active investigation with the assistance of the Polk County Sheriff’s Office and the Des Moines Police Department.

After a detailed investigation, West Des Moines Police Detectives arrested Manirakiza Wilson, 20, of Grimes, at approximately 11:10am on the following criminal charges:

– Reckless Use of Firearm – Class C Felony

– Possession of Dangerous Weapon while Under the Influence – Serious Misdemeanor

Currently, the 16-year-old male victim remains in critical condition at a local hospital. Manirakiza has been transported to the Polk County Jail for booking.
