May 2, 1933 – January 7, 2026

Gloria Marjorie (Larson) Langerud passed away on Wednesday, January 7, 2026 at the age of 92.

She was born on May 2, 1933 to Peter and Cora Annette Larson in Troy, South Dakota. She was the sixth of eight children. The family moved to Scarville, Iowa where Gloria attended Norway Country School and Immanuel Lutheran Church. She was a graduate of Lake Mills High School.

On January 20, 1952 she married Calmer Langerud. To this union, three children were born: Deb (Darrell) Swanson of Rochester, New York, Denny (Deb) Langerud of Jacksonville, North Carolina and Dodi (Brent) Rastetter of Ankeny, Iowa.

Later in life she was blessed with a special and enduring friendship with Gillman “Gilly” Flo that she treasured until his passing.

Gloria had an adventurist spirit. At a young age, she loved to dance and roller skate. After a diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis, her life was forever changed. She found joy in playing cards, watching her “stories,” keeping busy at Salem Lutheran Church and spending time with her family. Afternoon coffee with her sisters was extra special. Although her body did not allow her to move as she once did, she kept such a happy heart and was always up for giggling and laughing for hours on end. She loved when her grandchildren would push her around in her wheel chair. She also loved sitting in the sun, shopping and golf cart rides.

As a true Norwegian, “Uff da” was her response to everything. Her grandchildren once counted her saying it over 100 times in a single weekend.

Gloria will be deeply missed by those that love her.

She is survived by her children; sisters, Lorraine Branstad of Albert Lea, Minnesota, Carole Mathews of Leland, Iowa and Bev Lovik of Lake Mills, Iowa; Grandchildren, Blake (Brad) Opsahl, Brooks Gooding, Bella Gooding, Tiffany Swanson, Tara (Tim) Phebus, Tyler (Crystal) Swanson and Traci (JP) Blenk, Chris (Diedra) Langerud, Cal Langerud and Dee Langerud; Great-grandchildren, Wyatt, Waverly, Sophia, Jacob, Daniel, Tommy, Auggie, Grace, Frances, Skyler, Emma, Savanah and Gage; and Great-great-grandchildren, Ansley, Holly and Layton.

Gloria was preceded in death by sisters, Elnora Riekena, Blanche Larson and brothers, Marley Larson and Vincent “Bud” Larson.

A funeral service with a time of sharing memories for Gloria will be held at 11:30 AM on Friday, January 23, 2026 at Schott Funeral Homes – Mittelstadt Chapel, Lake Mills, with Mr. Kermit Singelstad officiating. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow a light luncheon at Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery, Scarville, IA.
