WASHINGTON, D.C. – A Democratic U.S. Congresswoman who allegedly attempted to invade an ICE detention center and then battled cops during the melee has been charged with federal crimes, and Homeland Security Czar Kristi Noem is applauding the outcome.

Kristi Noem

“After a thorough review of the video footage of Delaney Hall and a full investigation from HSI, the U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey has made the determination to charge Congresswoman LaMonica McIver for assaulting, resisting, and impeding law enforcement officers,” Noem said Monday.

“No one is above the law,” Noem claimed. “If any person, regardless of political party, influence or status, assaults a law enforcement officer as we witnessed Congresswoman McIver do, you will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”

The fracas erupted earlier this month when Democratic lawmakers attempted to enter the ICE detention facility in New Jersey.  As a result of the incident, former Donald Trump attorney and now U.S. Attorney for New Jersey Alina Habba brought charges on McIver, saying she broke federal law.

According to Rep. LaMonica McIver (pictured at top in action at the facility during the incident):

“At Delaney Hall, I witnessed firsthand the chaos and cruelty that defines the Trump administration’s immigration policy. As we have done before, we went to conduct lawful congressional oversight—to do our jobs and demand answers for our constituents. We were met with contempt, disrespect, and aggression from ICE. From roughing up members of congress to arresting the mayor of our state’s largest city, there is no version of today that does not show the blatant abuses of power of the Trump administration. Americans should be outraged—democracy demands transparency, not fear and force. No agency and no administration should be allowed to operate in darkness.”

McIver is reportedly required to turn herself in immediately.

  1. Kristi Noem is an idiot. So far no charges have been filed against the congresswoman and the House members who were there had every right to be there. It is part of their duties to oversee the detention facilities. If anyone should be charged, it is ICE.

    1. They can be there, if they wanted in, they need a 24hr notice to schedule a tour, is what l heard.

        • Oversight Authority: Members of Congress are legally authorized to inspect federal facilities as part of their oversight responsibilities.
        • No Specific Notice Requirement: There is no specific legal requirement for Congress members to give 24 hours notice before inspecting facilities like Delaney Hall, as they are conducting lawful oversight.
            1. Maybe the warden’s then.
Did you see where the people who did go in and inspected were impressed with the facility. Even had phone access for everyone.

                1. REP. BONNIE WATSON COLEMAN: So, we toured the facilities. We toured the area where they were holding people, the area where you would eat, the area where you cook, some of the bathroom facilities, the medical area. The place is not as clean as it could be, but relatively so.

                  1. One person? And where is the “impressed” part? If you call “The place is not as clean as it could be, but relatively so.” as “impressed” your standards are really low. But, you voted for trump so they have to be low.
