Sue was born on April 25, 1950, to Richard and Diane (Nall) Cornelius. She graduated from Newman Catholic High School in 1968. On May 24, 1975, Sue married Jerald Klatt, and together they built a loving family, raising one daughter and two sons. Tragically, Jerald passed away unexpectedly in August 1993. Despite this tremendous loss, Sue remained a pillar of strength for her family.
Her career began at AC Nielsen, but she eventually found her place at Curries, where she worked until her retirement. On November 25, 2016, Sue married Gene Malek, and the two shared eight wonderful years together.
Sue will be deeply missed for the light she brought to everyone she encountered. She was a steadfast source of support for her friends and family. Sue loved traveling, quilting, dancing, cooking, gardening, and canning vegetables and fruits. She also enjoyed attending shows with her sister-in-law Margaret Lang. Sue spent a lot of time shopping and taking care of community gardens with her best friend Mavis King. In the colder months Sue and Gene wintered in Yuma, Arizona where they made many friends. When her children were young, her home was a safe gathering place for all their friends. Sue was also a devoted supporter of her family, rarely missing any of her grandchildren’s events.
Faith was central to Sue’s life and shone through in her daily actions. She was an active member of Epiphany Parish, participated in the prayer shawl group, and enjoyed time with the CLASS Car Club and various coffee groups. Sue’s legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering faith will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
Those left to cherish memories of Sue are her husband, Gene Malek; children, Jeremy (Mary) Klatt, Joe (Amanda) Klatt, and Jenny (Paul) Winchester; step-children, Lee Malek and Stacey Malek; grandchildren, Henry, Aaron, Gabriel, Annora, Owen, Oliver, Nile, Landon, Gavin, Avery, Jaiclyn and Piper; siblings, Steven (Kathy) Cornelius, Deanna (Jim) Clausen, Sherri (Rick) Fishel, sister-in-law, Barb Cornelius, as well as many other extended family and friends.
Sue is preceded in death by her first husband, Jerald Klatt; an infant daughter, Susan Jennifer Klatt; both of her parents; and a brother, Richard Cornelius.
