Robert “Bob” Hutchinson, 89, of Lone Rock died Tuesday, July 30, 2024. Funeral Mass for Bob will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, August 3, 2024 at Divine Mercy Parish ~ St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Bancroft. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Friday, August 2, 2024 at Oakcrest Funeral Services in Bancroft.
Robert Francis Hutchinson was born July 10, 1935, on a farm north of Lone Rock, Iowa. He was the son of Lloyd and Emma (Meyer) Hutchinson. Robert graduated from Lone Rock High School with the class of 1953.
On June 8, 1960, Robert was united in marriage to Sandra Parsons at St. Cecelia Catholic Church in Algona. Robert was a member of the Iowa National Guard and was stationed at Fort Lewis, Washington from 1961 to 1962. After his time in the service, Robert and Sandra returned to Iowa where he ground feed for local farmers. In 1969, after his father had a stroke, Robert moved his family to the farm. Robert began actively farming in 1970.
Robert enjoyed playing baseball and playing cards. He loved raising calves and had a cow-calf herd. Robert also had tame pigeons. He was fond of watching his children and grandchildren compete in their sporting events. He and his wife spent time in Texas during the cold winter months. He loved investing in stock and always wanting to show others how to “work” them. He always had a joke or a story to tell.
Robert died Tuesday, July 30, 2024, at MercyOne in Mason City. He was 89.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra Hutchinson of Lone Rock; four children, Mark (Debbie) Hutchinson of Amesbury, MA, Jess (Chevelle) Hutchinson of Lone Rock, Angela (Scott) Bragg of Pace, FL, and Craig (Ellen) Hutchinson of Fenton; 14 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are Robert’s siblings, Donald (Janece) Hutchinson, Lila Hutchinson, Eugene Hutchinson, Roger (Louise) Hutchinson, Duane (Paula) Hutchinson, Dennis (Mary) Hutchinson, Judy Moore, Kay (John) Forrest, and James (Shelly) Hutchinson; sister-in-law Linda Nemmers; brothers-in-law Mike (Sue) Parsons and Tom (Erma) Parsons and many nieces and nephews.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, sister Marjorie in 1943, brother Kenny in 2011, brother Gordon in 2024, five sisters-in-law and six brothers-in-law.
