Alice Heitland, 85, of Thornton, passed away Saturday, January 13, 2024, at MercyOne-North Iowa. Woodley Funeral Home and Crematory, Thornton is caring for Alice and her family. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, January 20, at Meservey Reformed Church. Interment will be at Pleasant View Cemetery, Thornton. Visitation will be 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., Friday at Woodley Funeral Home, Thornton and continue 1 hour before services at the church.
Alice Elaine Heitland was born July 4, 1938, at Renwick, Iowa, a daughter of Lucas and Dora (Pogge) Bunk. She attended Renwick schools and Eagle Grove Community College. She also took classes from Mankato State and earned her Bachelor’s Degree from Drake University.
Alice taught school in Meservey-Thornton and continued as it became SCMT for 27 years. On December 27, 1960 Alice was united in marriage with Roger Heitland at the Wright Christian Reformed Church. They raised 4 children on their farm which also became a field trip location for the elementary school students.
Alice was a member of the Meservey Reformed Church, RCW, and Lioness’. She loved to garden and go to auctions and antiquing. She also had a large salt and pepper shaker collection.
Surviving are her children: Dennis (Lisa) Heitland, Thornton; Julie Heitland, Thornton; Tony (Erin) Heitland, Garner; Loren (Francisca) Heitland, Thornton; grandchildren: Rilley and Emery Heitland and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband Roger, her parents, sister Maxine (Bill) Fischer and brother Chris (Marie) Bunk.
