AMES – Coming off two big wins last week, No. 20 Iowa State will look to keep the momentum going at Oklahoma State in a battle for third in the Big 12 Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. The Cyclones followed up their win over Texas with a dramatic 81-77 double overtime victory at Baylor on Saturday evening.

Key Storylines

Iowa State’s consecutive wins over Baylor and Texas marks only the second time in the Big 12’s double-round robin schedule format (2011-12-Present) that a team has beaten both BU and UT in consecutive games (Oklahoma, Jan. 29 & Feb. 2, 2022).

Iowa State’s Ashley Joens was named the Big 12’s Player of the Week for the 13th time in her career, moving her up into sole possession of second for most career Player of the Week honors.

At Baylor, Joens stepped up with 13 of her 27 points in the two overtime periods. She also notched her 10th double-double of the season with 11 rebounds and had four assists and two steals in the win.

In the game on Saturday, Joens also moved up to No. 2 in Big 12 Women’s Basketball history for career scoring, now sitting at 2,860 points. She is tied for 22nd in NCAA Division I Women’s College Basketball history.
Denae Fritz earned her second Big 12 Freshman of the Week honor of the season, finishing with 12 points (including three 3-pointers) and seven rebounds against the Bears.

Emily Ryan notched her fourth double-double of the season, posting 10 points and 11 rebounds in addition to dishing out five assists.

Ryan ranks eighth nationally with her 6.9 assists per game and is also one of the nation’s top free throw shooters, ranking second at 93.0 percent.

Ryan (49 minutes), Joens (47) and Lexi Donarski (48) all played a career-high in minutes at Baylor, marking just the second time since 1981-82 that the Cyclones have had three players play at least 47 minutes each in the same game (Jan. 18, 1997 vs. Colorado; Tara Gunderson – 50, Jayme Olson – 50, Janel Grimm – 47).’
