Teen hurt after crashing car into tree in Mason City

MASON CITY – A teen was hurt after crashing her car into a tree in Mason City Friday afternoon.

On February 4, 2022 at about 3:30 PM, the Cerro Gordo county sheriff’s department received a report of a single vehicle collision involving a tree on Hwy 65 (Orchid Ave) near County Road B-20 (300th St). The car was a White 2007 Chevrolet Malibu and was being driven by 16-year-old Ivory Johnson from Mason City. Johnson had lost control of her vehicle due to the road conditions and struck a tree in the center of the divided highway. She was wearing her seatbelt and the airbag did deploy. Ivory was trapped inside the vehicle but was helped by a passerby and was free upon the arrival of medics and fire.

She was transported to Mercy ER by the Mason City Fire Medics for apparent non life threatening injuries.

The Cerro Gordo county sheriff’s department was assisted by the Mason City Fire Department.
