Crash near Clarksville claims life of Shell Rock man

logo-iowa-state-patrolCLARKSVILLE, IOWA – One man is dead and two others hurt after a driver lost control of his pickup truck.

The accident happened Thursday evening, October 27 around 7:06 PM on County Road C33, about one-quarter mile east of Willow Avenue in Clarksville, Iowa. Matthew Dewitt, age 44 of Shell Rock, was driving a 2000 Ford F150 with two passengers inside eastbound on C33. The pickup drifted off the road into the south ditch and impacted a box culvert.

As a result of the crash, 41-year-old Jeffrey Dewitt of Shell Rock was killed. Matthew Dewitt of Shell Rock was injured, as was 28-year-old Andrew Baker of Waverly. The two injured men were taken by Waverly emergency responders to a Waverly hospital.

The Iowa State Patrol says Andrew Baker was the only one in the pickup without a seatbelt in use. The crash remains under investigation.
