CORALVILLE – A former Minnesota man now in prison for killing two Iowa convenience store clerks will stand trial later this year, along with his alleged accomplice, for attempted murder.
Michael Richard Swanson, now 21 years of age, is accused of trying to kill a fellow inmate at the Iowa Medical and Classification Center in Coralville after an incident that took place on November 13, 2014. His alleged accomplice, Michael Ivester, age 33, is also charged.
Allegedly, the pair targeted another inmate they didn’t like and used a sharp weapon to slash the man below the head, causing the victim to require over a dozen stitches.
A September 15, 2015 trial is scheduled for both convicts.
Swanson is serving two life sentences after he was convicted of the 2010 murders of Sheila Meyers in Humboldt and Vicky Bowman-Hall in Algona as they worked jobs at convenience stores. He drove to Iowa from his home state of Minnesota and killed the two convenience store clerks.
