WAUKEE, IOWA – A suburban Iowa elementary school was evacuated after a bomb threat on Friday.
The incident took place on Friday, December 9, 2022 in Waukee, Iowa, west of Des Moines. At 1:15 PM that day, school officials say, a bomb threat was called into Waukee Elementary School. The Waukee Police and Fire Department responded immediately and evacuated the students and staff. Officials aid afterwards that, “first and foremost, all of the staff and students are safe and have been reunited with their families. The building has been searched multiple times by Waukee Police and Fire, and there were no unusual or suspicious items found.”
“This is the best case scenario and we want to thank our families and staff for your patience and cooperation,” the school superintendent, Dr. Brad Buck told parents. “A big shout out to our students for handling this situation so well.”
Police and authorities almost always take bomb threats seriously. Not doing so can lead to tragic outcomes, like earlier this year when an Iowa man used pipe bomb to blow up a boat. Or, it can be an inconvenience and at the same time terrifying for folks, like about a year ago when a Britt’s Dollar General store was evacuated after a prank bomb threat.
