Audrey Ann Haverly, the daughter of Henry and Clara (Laux) Haverly, was born on October 1, 1936 in Kossuth County Prairie Township, Iowa. She attended Saint Joseph Catholic Elementary in Wesley and later transferred to Britt High School, graduating in 1954. After high school, Audrey became a legal secretary for Lynch Law Firm from 1954 to 1976. In 1977, she ran for political office and began serving as Clerk of District Court for Kossuth County until her retirement in December 2001. Audrey was a member of St. Cecelia Catholic Church in Algona and Wesley. A couple of her favorite hobbies were playing piano and golfing with her nieces and nephews.

Audrey will most be remembered for her role as a Special Aunt who had a huge heart of love for all her nieces and nephews. Many of us have numerous fond memories of overnights with her watching the Lawrence Welk show while devouring her famous sugared popcorn; caddying for her as she golfed; getting dressed up and getting to go out to eat; watching intently as her fingers rolled out the best piano tunes with ease; listening to her music collection on her vintage Hi-Fi; enjoying her fabulous cooking and baking; having a visit over a cup of coffee or maybe even a favorite cocktail or glass of wine; and looking up to her with utmost respect as a professional woman role model.

Left to cherish Audrey’s memory are her brother, Paul Haverly of Britt; sisters in law Mary Joyce Haverly of Garner and Rose Haverly of Britt; nieces and nephews, Jerry Haverly of Humboldt, Diana Haverly of Humboldt, Lori Brown of Dexter, Mark Haverly of Titonka, Jeannie Conway of Urbandale, Shirley Fetten of Maquoketa, Donna Witte of Britt, Deb Gossman of Forest City, Dorothy Gatton of Belmond, Barb Navara of Worthington, MN, Kathy Grimsley of Clear Lake, and Steve Haverly of Ames; and many great nieces and great nephews and their families. She is preceded in death by the love of her life, Sam Hanson (June 13, 1980); sister, Jean Marie in infancy; parents, Henry, and Clara Haverly; brothers, Ken Haverly, Den Haverly, and Hugh Haverly; sisters in law Shirley Haverly and Mary Jane Haverly; nieces, Connie Krominga, and Marie Haverly; and nephew, Larry Haverly.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Audrey’s name to St. Croix Hospice. Lentz Funeral Home of Algona is assisting the family. Condolences may be left at www.lentzfuneralhome.com.
