Names released in shooting of man who drove car at Waterloo officer

WATERLOO – The names of the officers involved in an incident on April 5 outside a Waterloo bar that resulted in a man being shot have been released.

On Sunday, April 5th, 2015, at 1:27 A.M., officers with the Waterloo Police Department responded to a report of a fight involving a large number of people in the parking lot of the New World Lounge 2, 504 Riehl Street, in Waterloo.

While attempting to break up the disturbance, officers attempted to stop a suspect, later identified as Javon Darnell Webb, 27, of Waterloo. Webb got into a vehicle and attempted to leave the parking lot. As he was fleeing the lot he drove towards Officer Steve Bose, striking him with the vehicle. This action resulted in shots being fired at the vehicle by Officer Thomas Frein and Officer Mark Nissen.

Webb continued to flee the scene and he arrived at Allen Hospital Emergency Department a short time later with multiple gunshot wounds. Webb is currently in stable condition. Officer Bose was treated and released from Allen Hospital Emergency Department for injuries sustained when he was hit by Webb’s vehicle.

Iowa DCI Investigators continue to conduct interviews, as well as attempting to identify other witnesses who were at the New World Lounge 2 at the time of the incident. Investigators are asking any witnesses to contact the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation at (319) 277-4601 Ext.108.
