NIT – The president of Iran said the American people are too “wise” to fall for the words spoken by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who addressed a joint meeting of Congress Tuesday.
Hassan Rouhani, president of Iran since 2013, said Wednesday following Netanyahu’s speech that nuclear treaty talks between Iran and other world powers are going well and that if an agreement is reached, it will be good for the world.
Rouhani claimed that the “International community (is) happy with progress” of negotiations, which he says “will result in more development, commerce, economic & cultural (cooperation) … as well as battling extremism and violence in the world.”
Rouhani said Israel wants to derail the talks.
“The only country infuriated is the one who relies on continued war and aggression,” he said, apparently referring to Israel.
“The very regime that has repeatedly violated international law, is in possession of nuclear arms and has refused to sign the (non-proliferation treaty).
“The regime that occupies its neighbors, shoots innocent women and children, and denies them basic human rights is now lecturing us about peace.”
Rouhani said that the “people of the world, especially the American people, will not listen to lectures by a warmongering regime. They’re wiser than that.”
