investigateSPENCER – A truck driver snagged power lines and dragged them for some distance before a deputy stopped the vehicle for causing a potentially dangerous situation.

A Clay county deputy spotted a a feed truck with a grain auger hanging over into oncoming traffic on Highway 18 near Spencer on the morning of August 28. It was then discovered by the deputy that the auger, being pulled by a 2003 Sterling Feed Truck, had caught a power line and was dragging it behind the truck. After further investigation, it was determined power lines had been “torn from power poles” at locations along Highway 18 at county road M27 and addresses at 1355 and 1410. No charges were filed against the driver, 54-year-old Billy Lewis of Spencer, who was working for Pro Cooperative of Pocahontas, IA.
