DES MOINES – A new poll released this week shows the President is not very popular in Iowa these days, a state that essentially catapulted Barack Obama into the Commander in Chief’s office years ago.
Gallup continues to track Iowa as a hotly-contested Senate race unfolds between Joni Enrst and Bruce Braley to succeed Democrat Tom Harkin. Gallup says the race is so close, in part, because the President’s approval across the state continues to plunge as hot-button issue dog his presidency.
Numbers from the latest Gallup poll show that in the first half of 2014, Obama’s approval rating among Iowans stood at just 38%, five percentage points below the national average and the lowest rating Gallup has measured in Iowa during his presidency.
Obama’s policies have been controversial, as he takes on tough issues like immigration reform, health care reform, wars across the globe, and racial confrontations in Missouri.
Making things worse for Braley, Gallup said, is that more Iowans are reported to be leaning right in their political beliefs and identifying themselves as Republican.

Hey Philly, are you reading this?
@LVS….He won’t respond when it comes to something negative being reported about his hero. Besides, in his limited mind space, he probably feels this has to do with slavery anyway.
@Buzz-Now Obama refuses to make a decision in immigration until after the mid-terms because he knows the people do not want it and he is afraid of what it will do to the Democratic votes. Real leader we have there isn’t he?
@LVS…It’s all about political advantages to that guy. He could care less about the American people as long as his nest is feathered. And…it will be for the rest of his life, thanks to the rest of us.
It is all about political advantages to ANY politician-Democrat, Republican or Independent. If a Republican were in the White House, he/she would be doing whatever could be done to ensure his/her party triumphs in the next election. Don’t delude yourself into believing this is an isolated incident.
Sure they would, but none has risen to the level of this guy.
Buzz, sorry, but you’re so wrong. Obama is one of those rare presidents (ex: JFK) who DOES care about people and what they think about the job he’s doing. Why do you think he stresses over it so much?
He has recently come right out and admitted some of his flaws. I would have fainted dead away if G.W. would ever have done that.
@JMO-Obama is the most arrogant president’s we have ever had and never, ever has he admitted he made a mistake.
LVS, I never said anything about admitting mistakes. I said he was very open about revealing some of his flaws. Big difference.
His look is not one of arrogance, to me. Do you realize how many people have accused him of not being “presidential” enough? He’s trying to show confidence. It’s what you guys wanted, remember?
@LVS, if the President is as arrogant as you say, then he must have learned it from that stalwart Republican, Richard “I am not a crook’ Nixon
@ bo, No. Obama don’t have no slave blood, his people they was to lazy to get shipped over here to work they was just BS’ers like him. At least when slavery was, our streets was safer no riots like in Ferguson. Republican’s they crap their nest, they set them slaves free, them votes put Obama in. We would of been better off keeping thing’s like they was. Most them folks use to work, did not back talk or bite the hands that fed them. Now a day’s it is all welfare baby’s and rap crap.
@PeeWee-Actually it was the Democrats who freed the slaves, or at least they thought they did. Obama just wants more low level voters.
In a way he would be right, it is about slavery. We are slaves to the government.
@Maybe-yep, it is not about his complete failure as a president or falling down to nothing in the polls. It has to be slavery.
