MASON CITY – A woman accused of vandalizing a vehicle in a courthouse parking lot is in jail after skipping a court date.

Melissa Jean Hand, age 24, is accused of vandalizing a vehicle in the Cerro Gordo County Courthouse parking lot on June 12th, 2014. Hand and the victim knew each other, police said. The damage was thought to be around $900.

Hand was charged with third degree criminal mischief on June 20th and was scheduled for an arraignment on July 7that 8:30 AM, but she failed to appear. A warrant for her arrest was then issued, and she was brought to jail later that evening, held on $2,000 cash-only bond.
