MASON CITY – The common citizen in Mason City seems to have learned a lesson: It is better to be safe than sorry.
A suspicious person was located by police in the Ray Rorick park, located at 1090 15th Street SW, Saturday morning at about 8:47 AM. Mason City police officers and and investigator were at the scene to question the man, who was not named. The man told police he was “OK” and said the weapon was for his protection as he slept.
The man was not arrested or cited for anything, and was apparently left to continue napping.

…don’t understand…here was the “perfect” reason for rolling out the new “MRAP”…load it up with “the troops” and roll in on this guy with guns “ablazin'” and the battering ram at the ready…must have had a flat tire…?
Can’t blame him at all.
Im proud of the Officers for allowing this! If the man was harmless and posing no threat I see no problem with it! Good Job!
Yes I too commend the police for leaving this man in peace and his 2nd Amendment Rights intact. I’m assuming they identified him and made sure he was legal to own a firearm (history of violence with a weapon should be the only disqualifying reasons…so relax NRA members!). In some communities the SWAT would have been called and this man put to the ground forcefully at gun point.
Thank God all he had was a gun. If he would’ve had a joint then we’d have a problem. I say free guns to the homeless.
