MASON CITY – A North Iowa man who fled a traffic stop late last year on the city’s North End pled guilty on Monday and is now serving a jail sentence.
Mason City police attempted a traffic stop of 30-year-old Colter Lee Ginther of Rockford on December 26, 2103 at about 12:32 PM near the 1300 block of North Pennsylvania Avenue.
Ginther abandoned his vehicle and fled the area on foot, with up to six officers becoming involved in the search for him.
At about the same time, a Cerro Gordo county sheriff’s deputy observed Ginther running from a Mason City police officer towards where he was located, in the same vicinity. The deputy was able to stop Ginther until Mason City police officers arrived and took control of him.
Ginther was charged with eluding a law enforcement vehicle, driving while suspended, interference with official acts, failure to prove insurance, and operating without a registration.
On Monday, June 9, Ginther pled guilty in Cerro Gordo county district court to eluding and was sentenced to 21 days in jail and $621.25 in fines and fees. He is now in jail until June 29th. Ginther is awaiting a November trial on the interference charge, to which he has pled not guilty.
