MASON CITY – The Mason City school district confirmed the hiring of Nicholas Trask as the new boys basketball coach.
A district document says that Trask will assume the Head Varsity Boys Basketball Coach position at a rate of pay of $6,435 (2013-2014 Collective Bargaining Agreement). Trask is a teacher at Mason City High School and is originally from Charles City.
Adam Callanan was the previous coach. His overall record was 39-78 and 5-17 last season.
An online stat book shows that Mason City has won five state titles (1935, 1940, 1943, 1996, 1997) with the last two under former coach Bob Horner, who was passed up for this open coaching position.

How do you hire a guy whose only head coaching experience is at the Forest City Christian School over a guy with multiple state titles? Head scratcher!
Just maybe he will hire horner as an asst. coach?!?!?!
I don’t know anything about Trask other than he is stepping into a hornets nest. I wish him well. I would love to city MCHS win again.
If he’s getting paid $6,435.00, why does Robert Horner make > or equal to $9,698.32 (See Mason City Community Schools 2012-2013 Employee Earnings Report).
because he is also an asst baseball coach
