WEST DES MOINES – Former Mohawk and Hawkeye Jeff Horner has resigned as head basketball coach at West Des Moines Valley, the Des Moines Register reported Thursday.

Horner coached at Valley for four seasons and led the Tigers to the Class 4A title game this past season. He is currently still listed as an employee with Wes Des Moines Valley Schools, as a study hall supervisor and classroom assistant.

The Register reported that Horner is seeking other coaching opportunities. He was Mr. Iowa Basketball in 2002, playing for Mason City, and went on to play at the University of Iowa.

  1. …Nature Boy…not sure how you are tying together young Mr Horner’s leaving coaching at “Valley”, with IOWA being a “cesspool of bigotry”?

  2. Jeff and his family are class act people he was fun to watch as a Mohawk and Hawkeye. Good luck in whatever road he choses

  3. I heard per a source that he is leaving the state. Sounds like he has excepted a position but my guy wouldn’t say where just yet.

  4. I have a feeling he,s coming home and him and dad will lead the mohawks to that promised land. Sounds great but with the way our school system is in turmoil I doubt it will happen.

    1. Right. I seriously doubt he is moving “home”. This school district is in total chaos. Who would want to work for these people? Micich will leave next.

      1. @Matt-God i hope you are right and she leaves real fast. Why would we want to keep on paying her after her gross mis-management?

      2. he is going to University of north Dakota as a assistant coach. Strangly enough Dean Oliver was a assistant coach there until recently but is moving on to a different position. Two of the best Mohawk athletes of all time. Good luck to both of them.
