AMES – The Ames Police Department is investigating a possible self-inflicted gunshot fatality at this time.
According to Ames Police Commander Geoff Huff, at approximately 12:08 P.M. Wednesday, the Ames Police Department received a call from a woman reporting that a man had just shot himself at 112 Blueberry Court. Officers responded and found a man with a gunshot wound to his head. Personnel from Mary Greeley Medical Center and the Ames Fire Department provided medical care to the man. Unfortunately, the wound was not survivable and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
While the investigation continues, it does not appear to be any ongoing danger to the public.
The name of the victim is being withheld pending notification to the next of kin.
