Bernie Sanders rejects Trump’s SEC nominee

Bernie Sanders

WASHINGTON – At a rally Wednesday outside the U.S. Capitol, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) called for the defeat of the Wall Street lawyer whom President Donald Trump wants to regulate Wall Street.

“We need somebody who is prepared to confront the system, not someone who is part of the system,” Sanders said of former Goldman Sachs counsel Jay Clayton, Trump’s pick to head the Securities and Exchange Commission. “Mr. Clayton is clearly not that person. His nomination must be defeated.”

Trump pledged during his campaign that he would represent working families. He said he would “drain the swamp” in Washington and not let Wall Street “get away with murder.” He asserted that, “We can’t fix a rigged system by relying on the people who rigged it in the first place.”

Once he moved into the White House, however, Trump packed his administration with more billionaires than any president in American history and surrounded himself with former executives of Goldman Sachs. His chief economic advisor is Gary Cohn, who was the president of Goldman Sachs. His Treasury secretary is Steve Mnuchin, who worked for Goldman Sachs for 17 years and was dubbed the “foreclosure king” for kicking 36,000 people out of their homes during the financial crisis.

“Now, he wants Goldman Sachs’ go-to lawyer, Jay Clayton, to lead the Securities and Exchange Commission,” Sanders said of the attorney, whom he called “the embodiment of the greed that nearly destroyed the economy” by causing the Great Recession.

“Mr. Clayton has spent his career providing get-out-of-jail free cards to Wall Street executives and helping financial institutions avoid government regulation and fines,” Sanders added.

Clayton helped Goldman Sachs get a $10 billion taxpayer bailout from the Treasury Department during the financial crisis. He represented Valeant Pharmaceuticals, a company that increased the price of its lead poisoning drug from $950 to $27,000 over a two-year period.

“We need an SEC Chair who is willing to stand up to Wall Street and to end its greed and illegal behavior,” Sanders said.

So, all you negative guys believe that it is ok to fill up his economic advisors with Goldman Sachs execs? Why? Goldman Sachs was the financial investment company that created the economic collapse we experienced in 2008. They profited off it and then had the temerity to ask for a $10 billion bailout. Carp about Bernie all you want, but these guys will put us right where we were before.

You do realize bodacious that you will have to explain what the word “temerity” means to these Trump supporters.
You need to stick with one syllable words and pictures when dealing with most of these yokels.
But even that is a futile effort, as you are dealing with people that do not comprehend reality or facts.

My post is to give you an Amen on your comments about One Syllable words being the currency of the land on this web site. Question for you…..Bo spoke of Carp, what is that? The special being served at the fish fry tomorrow?

Gee, thanks guys.

Nobody had even heard of this loser before this election, after a lifetime career in politics. Time for ol’ Bernie to head out to pasture.

BERNIE? AGAINST ANYTHING “HE” DIDN’T PURPOSE?!?
I for one am shocked!

All of these negative comments, and yet no one has a better idea? We name call because of opinions that weren’t even formed ourselves? Sanders is dead on, and everyone who thinks hes not will find out soon enough. The crash in 2008 was caused by these big bankers giving out high risk loans for their own gain. Now we have a bunch of them running the country. Greed, and backstabbing is how most of these individuals have gotten where they are. Trump has no intentions of helping any of you. His agenda is, and always has been for his own gain. Keep feeding into the problems, and let others get your focus off things that actually matter. Nothing will change for the better if we keep allowing career swindlers to stay in charge. Bernie may not be as bad, but still has a lot of skeletons he has to answer for. Politics has been a good old boys club for too long. Term limits need to be astablished for all forms of government.
