UPDATED: Rockwell man, arrested twice in March for domestic abuse, skips court and is arrested

MASON CITY – A Rockwell man skipped court related to a serious domestic abuse charge and was arrested at the courthouse and taken to jail.

Lee Alan Best, age 25, was taken into custody May 1 at about 11:37 AM on on arrest warrant related to his second domestic abuse charge from the month of March.  He earlier pled guilty to a charge of domestic assault from a March 2, 2014 incident and was placed on probation.  His second charge came after a March 31, 2014 incident in Burchinal after dispatchers received an incomplete 911 call from a residence there. An investigation by Cerro Gordo deputies determined that a physical domestic assault causing injuring had occurred.

According to sources, Best was chased out of the Cerro Gordo courthouse by a deputy and soon caught. In addition to the warrant, Best was charged with interference with official acts and possession of marijuana.

Best had an arraignment hearing set for April 23 on the current charge of domestic abuse causing bodily injury but failed to appear in court. An arrest warrant was issued on April 23 and he was arrested Wednesday. He is now being held in the Cerro Gordo County Jail on $2,000 cash-only bond.
