Iowa man beats woman before he is arrested

IOWA CITY – Police encountered a seriously injured and bloodied woman as they investigated an assault in this college town, before making an arrest.

Quintin Harris, Jr., age 24, answered a door to an Iowa City apartment on May 1, 2014 at about 3:00 AM when police knocked, attempting to investigate a reported domestic assault. Police said that Harris was sweaty, out of breath, and his shirt was ripped. At about that time, the female victim was returning to the apartment with a friend. Police reported that she was “crying hysterically” and “in pain”. Her face was bloody and her left cheek along the cheekbone was greatly swollen with a cut along it; emergency medical technicians said it was possibly broken. She told police that Harris had punched her repeatedly.

Witnesses told police that when they heard the couple arguing, they found Harris delivering punches to the woman and they tried to restrain him. Harris later told police that he had assaulted her and didn’t care thither face was bloodied.

Harris was arrested and charged with serious assault and is still locked up in the Johnson County Jail.
