iowa dept of public safetyLOGAN, IA – The Iowa Office of the State Medical Examiner has released its findings in the death of 5 ½ year old Dominic Elkins. The medical examiner determined that Elkins’ cause of death was blunt force head injuries and drowning. His death has been ruled a homicide.

On August 31, 2013, Dominic Elkins was found deceased in a ravine in rural Harrison County by the foster family that he had been living with for approximately two weeks. 17-year-old Cody Metzker-Madsen, also a member of the same foster family, has been charged with first-degree murder.

It should be noted that a criminal charge is only an accusation and all suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
